My name is Jason Attar; I have been in the IT field for about 10 years. My past experience is in enterprise data center operations. I have also worked in the executive officer role for many years.
What I am sick of hearing about is the PC, Server and Networking Service companies taking advantage of the inexperienced person. So what I have come up with is rather simple. I know what the cost of labor should be and most companies charge an outrageous fee of $85 per half-hour, which is ridiculous! If that is not enough, they charge a fee for installing software at the rate of the total time of the install.
Sure it takes an hour for the install of most operating systems; however, the actual amount of work that is put in for the installation is only about 30 minutes. The rest of the time the computer is loading the files. So I have a question to everyone who takes time to visit my site: Why should you pay someone for an hour of time to install an operation system that takes only a half-hour of work?
And yes, I know the next question on you mind: What do I charge?
I charge a total of $65 per hour for homes, $45 per hour for churches and $95 to $110 per hour for a business*. The catch: (yeah, there is always a catch) I charge you only the time I actually work, so if I only spend a half-hour of work inputting the information, I will charge you only for the half-hour I actually work on the machine. Therefore, if I spend a half-hour working, the total install price would be $32.50! Show me anyone who charges less and I will not only match their price but I will beat it by 10% and that is a guarantee! Keep one thing in mind - if your uncle Joe will do it for $20, then I will suggest you use him. I only beat licensed companies. If the competitor will do it for $30, then I will do it for $27 and “no”, there is no catch. I only need to be able to verify the price from the competitor.
* Charge per hour for a business depends on the severity of the work.
